Marnus Labuschagne Dropped from Australian One-Day International Squad to Face India
The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from the three-match ODI series versus India, as high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw getting a unexpected inclusion.
Recent Form Lead to Omission
Labuschagne has been omitted from the one-day international squad after scoring just one run in each of his two innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a highest score of 47 in his most recent ten ODI batting appearances.
The 31-year-old has featured in 68 ODIs and scored 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64, but will now focus on earning a Test team comeback in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.
Renshaw's Return and Team Updates
Labuschagne has shown signs of a resurgence with a score of 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw also hit a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.
Renshaw is in line to make his first white-ball appearance in the upcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.
The left-hander has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a red-ball recall as Australia look for a solution to their batting top-order problems.

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after taking a break since performing well for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.
Big Bash star Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the lead up to Australia’s last 50-over series against South Africa.
ODI captain Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he hopes to heal from a spinal issue in time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.
Squad Selection Approach and Fixtures
Australia have announced a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.
Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 sides after scoring a hundred in the final game against New Zealand to seal a two-nil victory last week.
“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be player management through the back end of the series as players get ready for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an crucial phase in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”
Australia’s three-match ODI series against India commences on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from October 29.
