Woman Knifed in Birmingham City Bus Shelter Attack Succumbs to Injuries

A woman who was stabbed to her neck area in an unprovoked attack at a bus stop within Birmingham has passed away, authorities verified.

The deceased woman, who was 34, came under attack in Smallbrook Queensway, right beside Bullring shopping complex, just prior to 9 PM GMT Friday evening, according to police statements.

Djeison Rafael, 21, was presented at Birmingham court Monday morning, charged over the attack.

Originally charged with attempted murder but following the victim's passing charges were upgraded to murder.

Police Response

Authorities stated police personnel will remain around the city centre through Monday to offer reassurance, while detectives assisted the woman's family.

Detectives are appealing any eyewitnesses who may have seen the accused, identified as a Black British national, and is believed to have been wearing grey athletic wear, black hat, athletic shoes with a backpack.

The stabbing happened outside Bullring retail complex, opposite primary access point of New Street railway station.

Law enforcement confirmed they were treating it as "unprovoked attack" with investigators stating they were working to understand why it happened.

Eyewitness Reports

An area worker, employed in the vicinity, recounted paramedic and police activity after completing her shift around 10 PM Friday night.

She described the scene as "quite chaotic", and said some of her colleagues heard a commotion at about 21:00.

"A lot of my colleagues use transit services, ride the tramline... our security is compromised essentially, here in the city centre."

Another individual, twenty-five, from Stoke-on-Trent, mentioned visiting to Birmingham quite frequently to see his girlfriend resident there, expressing concern regarding the incident.

"It causes concern about my partner," he said.

"She lacks transportation employed at major concert locations... and to think something completely unprovoked occurred, understandably, it's terrible."
